Graphics card v CPU

I'm running a PIII 500MHz 192Mb RAM machine with a Hercules Prophet II MX 64 Mb card. I'd like to upgrade to a GeForce2 Ultra or possibly GeForce 3 - am I likely to see a marked frame rate improvement or is my CPU the limiting factor?
Any advice gratefully received.

your cpu is most likely the limiting factor. One easy way to tell is run some benchmarks at resolutions from 640x480 to 1024x768. If the frame rate is pretty much the same through out it is your cpu slowing the games down. Let us know how it turns out.
