Low 3dmark2000 score?

I'm getting around 3400 for the 3dmark2000( not the pro version).
I was just wondering if that was a lowish score. I am running:

1400MHZ AMD athlon
256MB ddr Ram
Gigabyte Geforce2 64mb sdr agp
30gig fujitsu HD
Gigabyte DXR7 something somthing motherboard 266MHZ

If it is a good score...fine...
If its bad...why? How can I fix this?

Thanks

You always need to load a chipset driver, specifically the AMD 750/760 series (Northbridge only) if your mobo is the GA-7DXR.

Get the driver at this link.

Gigabyte also recommends the Via IDE driver (because you have a Via 686B southbridge). You can get it at the link below. However, if you are using Win2K, I've read several messages where people prefer the Win2K IDE driver.

No, thank you. Just give me the BIG heatsink. It's an Athlon.

My agp is at 4x and i loaded the via 4 in 1 drivers. Is that good?

okay, now ur really scaring me.
I'm downloading the detonator drivers from nvidia. Will it help? It says performance increase of 30-50 parsent, so I'll have to wait and see.

You are making good progress.

I just re-read your original post. You mentioned, "Geforce2 64mb sdr agp". SDR? Is that a Geforce2 MX-400 card? If it is then 5500 is in the proper range for a non-overclocked MX/MX-400.

Here are some tweaks that I have found improve scores, pretty much (but not exactly) in order of decreasing improvement

- Video memory overclocking
- CPU overclocking
- Disabling vertical sync (should always be done for benchmarking).
- Memory set to 4-way-interleave.
- CAS2 timing
- GPU overclocking
- Bus and memory overclocking (I can only go to 106mhz on my KT7)
- Playing with AGP aperture settings

These all have very small improvements (at least for me)
- Enable Fastwrites (Can't reliably do this on Geforce256 card)
- Enable Sideband Addressing (conflicts with 21.81 detonators, at least for me)
- Enable AGP 4X

Strange Tweaks
- Disabling L2 cache (With my Duron this boosts my score by 5 points. I can't explain it).
- Fast memory timing (This was about 10 points better than -- Turbo timing. I think it's my memory).
- Lower video refesh rate (70 hz is about 15 points faster than 85hz. This isn't strange but not everyone knows about it).

The latest drivers may improve your 3D-Mark 2000 scores, but at the cost of smoothness. When I load them on my GHF2 systems, the framerates go way up! Then it pauses for a split second. Then it resumes with killer framerates! Then it pauses for a split second That jerkiness in NOT acceptable for me, and only results in about a 5% overall improvement in scores. The huge gains you hear of are only for the GF3.

Back to you Tom...

5500 is about rite for a MX. hav similar system specs,(AMD1400, GF2MX (32)) and have tweaked up to 6000. easily.
