serious Geforce 3 problems

I was wondering if anyone could help me.i just got a 3d prophet 3 64mb ddr and since installing it my machine will power down and restart without pattern,sometimes when i'm starting the pc it goes on and off three times before it boots but sometimes its fine,sometimes it will happen when the machine has been on for a few hours and will struggle to stay on.i formatted my hard drive and started afresh but this didn't help,so i'm back to using the old geforce 2 and its stopped doing it.if anyone can help i would be in thier debt forever

what is your powersupply's ratings?
is it a 300w?
does your motherboard support the graphics card?
is the card seated in the slot all the way?
those are some of the things that come to mind when i hear something like this...

check www.pricewatch.com ....you can pick up a nice 350 watt psu for pretty cheap..
maybe you could even go higher, and be set for a while

That is deffinatly a psu issue.
