Regarding your link, http://www.reactor.ru/#l2196, just click on the English flag on the left of that screen. Better still, use the English mirror site http://www.reactorcritical.com

The article contains good news. ATI is not going to supply lower clocked 8500 boards to OEMs. OEM and retail boards will be clocked at the same 275mhz, core and memory. (I wonder if that means there will be no 8500 LE). Claimed official ship date: Early October. Writer's estimate is October 2. (Would that be just Asia?)

Would you like a Quarter Pounder?
No, thank you. Just give me the BIG heatsink. It's an Athlon.

Hmmm, even more good news. The September 24 article states a $299 list price for the 8500. This is lower than I expected. I wonder what the street price will be?

Thanks. Sounds reasonable considering the retail cost.

$250 is still way out of my price range. I just don't play games often enough to justify it. $175 would be about my limit which I probably won't see anytime soon.

I'm still hoping that there will be a cheap Geforce3 MX.

The 275Mhz clock and the lower price? I'm impressed, even considering that's $500 Australian.

In that case, you can either get the 7500 for $179 at the same place. That will very possibly come down in price quick, if it's not cheaper elsewhere. I say that since the 8500 is $50 under MSRP, the 7500 is only $20 under. Close to the same, percentage-wise, I guess.

Also, the GeForce 3 Ti series is coming out soon (200, 400, and 500, or MX, GTS and Ultra, respectively).
Dell already has the GeForce 3 Ti 200 as an upgrade option here. Just use the video card pull down box a quarter of the way down the page to see it.

hey cool... thanks for the post.. also you can preorder the Radeon 8500DV at www.newegg.com for 400 bucks.. thats 100 dollars less then the retail... i would expect prices to drop in a 2 months time i think.. either that or after christmas.

I'm a little curious about the Radeon 7200 which is the 64mb Radeon DDR renamed. Retailing at $99 (and $80 street, my guess), it would make a good interim card while the dust settles between the high-end cards.

Your Dell link asks for an EValue code and I get find the video card you mentioned under any Dell system, customized or not.

Do you have any links with specs on the Geforce3 Ti series? 200 and 400 sound suspiciously like MX-200 and MX-400 class but maybe it just bad naming.

There's nothing official about the GeForce Ti cards yet, but they are supposedly going to be announced on October 1.

GF3 Ti 200 is a lower clocked GF3 at 175 / 175 ddr.
GF3 Ti 500 is a GF3 overclocked around 230/250.

Note weirdly the Radeon 8500 is clocked at 275/275(3.5 ns i believe) and could get to the golden 300/300 mark w/o a blorb and Ram Sink's.

Yes, but the higher clock does not necessarily mean that it's faster.
I'd be very interested to see the higher clocked 8500 (hopefully with good drivers) compared to the GeForce 3 Ti 500.
Edit: I suppose it would be more fair to compare the 8500 to the GeForce 3 Ti 200 considering the price.

Well i wished the Radeon 8500 is huge news like the Voodoo5 was. Most gamers still think nvidia is better baised on name like 3dFX was. Sad thing alot of gamers will miss out on this card. Well the driver thing is a MYTH i never had problems alot all and i own 4 Radeon's (1 32mb ddr, 3 Radeon VE's).

Thanks everyone. That's good information.

I'm still hoping for a budget-minded, MX-like, Geforce3 card. Some of us don't need to play games at 2000x1500 resolution and just want all the bells and whistles, FSAA, anisotropy, high-polygon count, pixel shaders, etc. at just 1024x768 with excellent speed and low cost. Is this too much to expect? (Well, maybe it is).

Would you like a Quarter Pounder?
No, thank you. Just give me the BIG heatsink. It's an Athlon.

I agree, you should never buy on hype alone.
About the driver thing, I wasn't talking about the reliability/stability of the drivers, I was talking about the drivers being tweaked so that the card could perform at 100% (or close to it). I'm sure the 8500 is capable of more than was shown by Tom's review.

Well ATi could of released this card in the Summer but waited till there drivers where tweaked good enough. Well the Radeon 8500 back then was going to be 250/250. Heck we got a extra 25 mhz core/mem. I want my hads at it. Image it at 300/300. Well Nvidia is over hyped i think the GF3 Ti series isnt a new chip at all just under/over clocked nvidia will sucker so many people claiming its there new nex gen chip. Radeon 8500 has impress alot of Custom builers and hardware guys. The average Joe/Jill will be sucker into the GeForce based on name alone. I think nvidia could of put some DX8.1 into but decided not not too. I'm Saying nvidia Nv25 could of had N-Patches and DX8.1 features pitty on them. Well most of them will claim there 3d mark 2k1 scores make it better then a Radeon 8500 "3dmark 2k1 is design around Nvidia features" I guess Gigabyte could be the first sign of hope since i found a 3rd pick and gigabyte is a good size player in the industry. Well it pissed me off just because of name people will buy it.
