I found the msblast.exe showing in the startup pane of the system config.
utility. I unchecked box next to it and went to the registry editor trying to
find entry but I could not find anything(local
machine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run). Also I tried to
seach the msblast.exe in system32 folder come with nothing. I even run the
Win32/msblast.exe removal tool from Symantec to clean my computer(windowXP
pro), In the end it said: your computer is not infected. So, could anybody
tell me why i still see msblast.exe in system config. utility under the
startup tag? where is this file? My computer works ok and no infected
symptoms. I just do not understand what the msblast.exe is doing in the
startup config. Can I ever get rid of it? Please help.

Hi,

Look under this key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg

Download Hijack this, run it, save a copy of the log file and cut and paste
it back here to this group so that I can analyze it.Ignore anyone who tells
you to post it elsewhere. I need to see it not them.

If it's just a leftover entry, then HJT isn't going to show it. It only
shows what is actively loading, I suspect this is just a dead entry that
needs to be removed.

Thanks Rick. I followed key you mentioned in regedit and found the data
value was just msblast.exe dangling at nowhere. It was deleted at last. I
don't know very much about the registry sort of stuff and really appreaciate
your help.

Hi pcbutts1, I have run Hijackthis (before I delete the reg entry for
msblast.exe) the log did not show msblast.exe anywhere, so I don't see the
need to post the log here. I appreaciate your point of view and help. Thanks
again.

Well, if you're so good as to be able to monitor 10, maybe you should get an
