Dunno about you, but I have not seen any official 8500 release review.
It's slightly early to compare these two.
However, the 8500 is now on the ATI online store, so hopefully we see something soon. It's not a miracle that nVidia releases the Titanium this week.

They are still listed as not in stock on ATI's site, and the vendor on Pricewatch (ENPC I think) is now saying end of October/beginning of November.

I think ati is trying to develop their drivers more now that nvidia has released their new Titanium line.
Seems similar to AMD holding off on their Desktop Palamino, or what we now know as Athlon XP.

there is that, theyll need some kickass drivers to kill teh titanium now, oh well... im hoping theres a surprise in store with the desktop palomino otherwise ive been waiting months for nothing, just ordered my case, psu, black slot dvd drive, heat sink and ram, waiting a while longer for the cpu hdds etc...

if in doubt blame microsoft...

Too early to judge radeon 8500. To be honest, I am very, very dissapointed at NVidia for their GF3 Ti500. I mean, there wasn't much performance gain at all! Now that my GF3 died, I may just wait a week (think it's enough??) and get myself a radeon 8500 IF and I say IF it bests both GF3's in teh benchmarks.

U got a problem?! Then dial 1800-328-7448!

Lets see here. Guess what that was a Radeon 8500 beta card at 250/250. With BETA drivers and features disabled. Yeah Ti500 can beat a Crippled Radeon 8500 beta card. When the Final Radeon 8500 at 275/275 with final drivers with all the features enabled it will be a different story. Well why would Dr. Tom compare the Radeon 8500 to the GF3 Ti500 instead of the GF3.

Thanks to tom we now have benchmarks of both systems

radeon 6685 http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/01q3/010814/radeon8500-12.html#3d_mark_2001

geforce 3 ti 5000 7758 http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/01q4/011001/titanium-05.html

now, the radeon scores were done on a p4@1.7ghz however the 300 mhz is NOT enough to make up the 1500 pt difference.

Any comments? RCF?

uhh....that article for Radeon 8500 is dated august 14/2001. If you gonna start comparing, by posting those two links, then plz wait for the official R8500 review not the preview board and beta drivers.

I agree with what most people have said here, you shouldn't really use those benchmarks to compare the Radeon 8500 to the GeForce 3 Ti 500.

It's going to be very interesting when the proper comparisons start appearing. NVidia have been the performance leader for some time, and have tried very hard to keep it that way with their latest product and driver releases.
If the Radeon 8500 beats the GeForce 3 Ti 500, of even equals it, it will be a hard blow to NVidia.

so let me get this straight, its ok to use beta drivers and beta card benchmarks to claim the radeon 8500 will own everything and its daddy, but its not ok to compare them to gf3 scores?

I didnt make any comment on those benchmarks, I MERELY linked them, how is that a zealot post RCF? I think its clear there is only one zealot here, and it is painfully obvious which one of us it is.

Wusy, rcf has used those VERY benchmarks to scream all over the forum how godly radeon8500 will be. I did not post the links to make my oppinion known, they are merely links to benchmarks, I wanted to hear rcf's comments that the very benchmaks he has been tauting all these weeks show much ass whoopage when compared to the new gf3 benchmarks.

I wont delete the post which ONLY contains links to benchmarks, it makes no sense. If it isnt fair to compare those benchmarks then rcf should not have been using them these 3 weeks as the battle call for ati fans everywhere.

I personally draw no conclusions from those benchmarks, I only put them on this forum for others to see and comment, nothing more.

ahh but with those new benchmarks on the geforce 3 we can now say that both nvidia and ati have crappy drivers that break cards that worked fine with older drivers.... but we can still say ati doesn't hack drivers to run benchmarks faster while breaking other games and making them slower.... kinda funny how the gods over at nvidia had to put out crap drivers and an overclocked card to take down the r8500 if it even took it down..... where is this card that they were talking about when it was said if they are shooting at the geforce 3 then they are shooting at the wrong card , i hope it wasn't the ti they were talking about cause that card is a joke..... a big joke.... and i don't see how anyone can say it isn't... we all know it is nvidia and thier 6 month product cycle that goes , make a new card , then overclock it , make a new card , then over clock it.... pretty funny , i prefer ati and videolodgic , put out a card wait 12 months put out another and leak a proggy that lets the consumer overlock thier board with out spending another 400 bucks .... sorry about the rant but i am so sick of this bs about nvidia

This is pure speculation, so treat it as such...

I was suprised to see the Radeon 8500 available on Dell's website for only $228. If ATI had really made a product, drivers included, that could decisively outperform the GeForce3, why would they release it at such a low price? The initial forcast was $399! I'm afraid (because in general I like ATI) that the low price may be a reflection on how their final driver performance turned out.

Hey, the Radeon 2 isn't looking bad at all, now, is it? Only 5 frames per second slower than the GeForce 3 at 1024x768, and with all the other bells and whistles, I think it will do just fine. I want to see some Aquanox scores though.

Well remember Nvidia passed up on DX8.1 in there NV25 aka GF3 Ti series.

Nice Nvidia and ATi users get a Cookie.... Yummy

This is comparing CounterStrike from a Radeon 8500 beta and GeForce 3.

Nice, its kind of like poly rounding built in. However if it is a feature which requires a patch then it is not super valuable, BUT like I said, I am getting a radeon8500 and will have a gf3 and radeon8500 box in my house.
