I installed XP Professional and now when I start my IE 6, it goes into auto
Proxy Detection, and it takes from 5 to 20 seconds for the computer to do
this.. I'm connected to the internet through a router. I never had this
problem before switching to XP Prof.

My connection is set to use LAN is set to automatically detect. The other 2
items on the connection window is not 'ticked'.

My system info says :

System Information report written at: 08/14/05 23:40:57
System Name: LOIUS
[Connectivity]

Item Value
Connection Preference Never dial

LAN Settings

AutoConfigProxy wininet.dll
AutoProxyDetectMode Enabled
AutoConfigURL
Proxy Disabled
ProxyServer
ProxyOverride

How do I disable the auto proxy detection? Will disabling it affect other
operations?

Thank You

Its an IE 6 setting:
Tools
Internet Options
Connections tab
LAN Settings button
clear all the tick boxes including the automatically detect proxy settings.
