New NES toploaders?

$40, plus an ungodly shipping fee? For that, you could get a top
loading NES or an AV Famicom, legit. Even at half price, I'd say it's a
rip-off. While pirate Famicoms generally run most normal games well,
they'll often throw some temper tantrums when you show them something
like the Disk System.

Also, the controllers included with them are generally pretty chintzy,
but don't even think of replacing them... it'll be hard to get NES
controllers with Atari-style connectors. You could make your own
adaptor, sure, but that makes it even less of a good buy.

IMO, these famiclones look cool, but it takes so much effort to find one
that doesn't have a major design flaw that you might as well just work
with a regular NES, be it top or front loading.

On a related noted, I'd be interested in knowing if the noise problem on
a top loader gets better or worse if the TV is properly calibrated with
a disc like Video Essentials or Avia?
