Some thoughts on MTF: the lack of sound is actually a rather minor
annoyance; far worse is the poor choice of camera views. Why are there
two stationary cameras and only one that follows the bike? And even
that last one is much too distant most of the time; what's badly needed
is a close chase view - and, for preference, an onboard view as well.
I'm not any sort of expert on motorbikes, so can't comment in too much
detail about physics, handling and so on, but the simple controls seem
to work pretty well and are quite easy to pick up. The bike graphics
are very good, and the graphics engine seems quite efficient, though
the settings themselves are rather drab and uninspiring.
A couple of other problems are excusable in a beta - the initial menu
is hard to read and navigate, and the mouse pointer, which does nothing
after the initial yes/no questions anyway, stays visible during the
game itself. One thing that should have been removed now that the
program has become freeware, though, is the message in the Help screen
stating that there is "Limited continuous play time in unregistered
version".
Overall, MTF is a game that's fun to mess around with for a few
minutes, but I really don't think it could be called a particularly
good long-term game as it stands; it's simply too incomplete as yet. I
don't think this is likely to become a two-wheeled equivalent of Racer,
but it might be worth another look in a few months' time.
