I just thought i would share my bad week with everyone cause i need to get it out of my system. Every post should start with a system spec so here goes:
3ghz 800fsb intel cpu
thermalright slk947u heatsink and 92mm vantec stealth fan
8knxp gigabyte motherboard
saphire ati 9800pro 128mb graphics card
1gb of corsair ram
thermaltake xasar 3 case
hd (pre bad week):
1x ide 120gb west digital 7200rpm
1x sata 120gb seagate 7200rpm

hd (new setup post bad week):
1x ide 120gb west digital 7200rpm (being replaced under warrenty)
1x ide 80gb seagate 7200rpm
2x sata 120gb seagate 7200rpm set in raid 0
1x sata 250 gb west digital 7200rpm for backup and storage

So back to the story which i will keep nice a short.

Firstly my pc started to slow down and eventually started spiradically crashing. I sensed something may be about to go wrong so started hunting for the culprit. The next morning i woke up to find that my PC had frozen completely (not being funny but i have not had a blue screen or a system hang ever in my 3 months of using this PC). I restarted the pc and guess what. No boot.

Waited for a while tried again and after 10 minutes the system started i realised that my HD was about to dye. I quickly grabbed some of my new sata drives that i was about to install before the probs and backed up my data - which took 24 hrs for 80gigs.

Then i tried to get the system to boot from sata but this proved to be cumbersome as i knew that i would eventually want to boot from ide and could not be arsed to boot from sata or raid.

I bought a new ide drive (80gb seagate)and loaded everything. All was going well until my pc crashed again. WTF? restarted and got into windows when the system crashed again - this reaked of a hardware crash. Waited a while and watched my pc when i booted. CPU fan was ok however i made the mistake of touching the graphics card heatsink - ouch. it was damn hot. Looked in and the fan was not moving. Grabbed the card out and found that the fan was very stiff to turn. Great thats two items to RMA.

To top this whole thing off i have finally confirmed that after three months of trying to work out why my cpu is running hot i have finally determined that the chip is faulty. Not being funny but if it wasnt for my 92mm fan and heatink that chip would have been dead a long time ago!

So i now have 3 items to RMA which i believe takes up to 6 weeks. 6 weeks and no PC AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

So with that off of my chest i will now attempt to tackle the UK customer service agencies which all seem to be located in India making it doubly difficult to sort out!

Thanks for listening. Any suggestions, comments or pc stories welcome.

Jon
