I have a Dell XPS running windows vista and am having trouble ie. lost frames and jittery picture, running HD video shot from my Nikon D5100. Any body know of some good software to help me with this issue.? I would like to be able to edit a bit with this as well.

Adding more software usually doesn't help the situation, though there may be some tools to help you clean up your computer. Most of them available just make the situation worse.

Most of the XPS's are beefier than the regular models, so depending on it's age it may be a limitation of your video processor with the HD content...

I'd start by removing all unnecessary programs that run when you start up your laptop. RAM may be in short supply (I don't know what your working with) because of Vista and OMG if your using Norton or McAfee on top of that. They're all resource hogs.

Thanks ratedK. I'm running 3 gigs of RAM, 32bit, AVG security. It is a bit older though. Probably 5 years old. Does this help. Someone has mentioned to me some kind of a video file converter. Any Ideas?

I don't have any personal experience using any of the converters, so I can't recommend one specifically... What your looking for, though, is "convert HD video to SD" which will convert the High-Definition video to Standard-Definition which will make it easier for your computer to deal with. Converting it will take some computer with resources as well. Good luck!
