Here's something to ponder on..
I have a friend (aka techie2001) who was having problems getting his computer to start (ie pressed power - nothing happened). He couldn't seem to fix it himself so he passed it on to me.
Well techie here your system problem.
1: No power leads from power supply to motherboard / components were connected.
2: No IDE leads connected to any device
3: Floppy drive has 8 pins missing from IDE interface
4: Hard disk is registering as being 17mb
5: No operating system installed
6: can't load operating system coz floppy drive don't work
7: CD drive doesn't even register with system
8: Most modern operating systems require a little more than 24mb RAM to get going.
9: I've seen less dust in a 20 year old hoover
10: Your VGA cards knackered and ready to give up the ghost.

I would sincerely recommend you upgrade to something a little more modern, like a Sinclair ZX81 perhaps..?

But anyway.. thought i'd let you know.

A typical compaq around this side of town...

It is the weakest link. They are not ready yet many have tried and failed with it.

I took my machine to bits on purpose to take out the network card - and I wouldn't touch a compaq to save my life.
The reason none of the cables were connected is because I was trying ot take out the power supply to lend to wiggy cos his was knackered a while back. Problem is it's actually riveted to the case via the power on lead so it won't come out unless you rip it out. Also I couldn't be bothered reconnecting the ide leads after doing 500 reseats. I didn't know my floppy was [-peep-] so I'll get a new one. Actually sod that I'll buy a new machine.

labplant1 piss off and go back to compaq. They need people there. I gave wiggy5 my comp cos I can't be ar$ed fiking up a p75. Whats the point - plus I had no room in my house for it. I have the smallest bedroom in the house, I'm a parttime Dj, i have shedloads of RC car stuff in there and I didn't have room for a busted up computer. So gave it wiggy5 and said "here fix that up for me"

Wiggy - don't make me look like a thick sh!t please.

If your gonna post make sure you tell it straight.

1: No power leads from power supply to motherboard / components were connected.
I disconnected them cos I was trying to remove the power supply to lend you when your comp broke
2: No IDE leads connected to any device
see above they were in the way of the power leads - really small case
3: Floppy drive has 8 pins missing from IDE interface
dunno bout that one worked fine when I left it
4: Hard disk is registering as being 17mb
needs formatting
5: No operating system installed
cos I got the hdd at a comp fair
6: can't load operating system coz floppy drive don't work
mmmm
7: CD drive doesn't even register with system
probably cos you can't get passed dos. old machine didn't register the cd unless you were in windows.
8: Most modern operating systems require a little more than 24mb RAM to get going.
I have 32mb
9: I've seen less dust in a 20 year old hoover
Cheeky I used a dyson on that bugger.
10: Your VGA cards knackered and ready to give up the ghost.
no it's not - it's fine

Apologies techie... you really are intelligent when it comes to computers.
By the way, I flashed your cmos ram and replaced the integrated bios chip. I inverted the main control jumpers and re-routed them to the HDD to provide a better access time, re-pinned your floppy drive and re-loaded the bios config for it, replaced the control program in your cdd and configured it to attach to your MB properly. I also installed a further 128MB SDRAM and 516k of pipeline burst cache, there's not much i could do with the processer, but i overclocked it to 133mhz and stuck a supercooler on it. also installed a MBM so that it will adjust if anything goes haywire. only thing i havent been able to do yet is rewire the PCISC so that it works and enables 3dSS.

I actually rang her to see if she knew where u were the other day coz i couldn't get thru to ur phone. She said she hadn't seen u since the mornin when u dropped her off at work.. i said ok cheers.. she said "Has he told you what happened?" I being curious as [-peep-] now.. said "no..., but go on.." so she said "I gave him a kiss..." and i said "sigh...." and she said "what u sighing for" and i said "no reason" and she said "ok" and i said "see u later" and she said "ok bye.." and then i hung up.. But i was merely asking u.. no need to get worked up about it.. I'm not going to say anything because it's up to u what u do..
Only one thing i should warn u about.. Bev & paul are really.. no REALLLYYY pissed of about that message.. and the fact i kept ringin her.. so if u do go round to her house... wear bodyarmour..

That was a mistake - I should never have done that. I was a bit tired plus the rest and the stress for some joey losing his key down my friggin dashboard. So I'm a bit stuck. Time to ask the THGC relationship council.

I hate it when your friends like your siblings. I told him not to even think about it. I knew how he was and I wasn't going to let my sister go out with him. He was a little pissed at first but soon got over it.
