I just bought me an XTASY 6964 Gforce3Ti 500 by Visiontek and if i dont have my refresh rate turned to default or to 60hz my monitor goes into dps mode when i start games(unreal, roguespear, homeworld)
but the screen gives me a headache at 60hz from the flashing. graphics in game apear to b fine. im running the detonatorxp but it also did same with drivers that came in the box. im running a MSI K7 master motherboard with 761chipset and 512meg ddr ram with athalon thund 1.333G on a 19inch Magview monitor oh and using win98se. I have a 13 inch monitor and tried to see if it was jus monitor but it only has a max of 60hz so it works fine on it. any help would be great.

anyone have a link to a good everclock program or instructions for my vid card when and if i ever get it working correctly

My system is very similar to yours, brands are different, but components are the same: KG7-Raid (761 northbridge), Asus V8200 pure (GF3), and run 512MB of ram. Since I am not seeing the same thing, I think it is not gonna turn out to be a problem with your hardware.

my suggestions would be:

1. make sure you have the right drivers for your MONITOR installed.
2. make sure you have installed the latest AMD AGP miniport driver.

3. uninstall your VIA 4-in-1 drivers by running the setup program again and selecting all uninstall options. Boot, ant then re-install 4-in-1 drivers making sure to choose the normal installation methon and NOT selecting to install the AGP portion of it (that is for VIA northbridges, we have an AMD northbridge.)

4. try the opposite of the setting your are currently using for the OpenGL Vsync. if it is off by default now, try on by default.

im checking on the new drivers now but before i got back on to check my post i was told to try overriding my direct draw refresh rate in Dx diag and set it to 85hz
and when i did everything works like it should but my question now is is this bad that i overide or can i leave it as is with no problems?

As long as your monitor supports the resolution and refresh rate, yes, you can keep the override value. Because of my monitor's specifications, I have the override set at 100, and it's been like that for a year.

My favorite tweaking program: <A HREF="http://www.nvmax.com/cgi-bin/view.pl?NEWS=index" target="_new">http://www.nvmax.com/cgi-bin/view.pl?NEWS=index</A>

Easy to use, and because it makes immediate changes to the system, (with an option to backup and restore the previous state), it doesn't have to be loaded during the boot. Read the help files to discover how to use the program.
