Best lightweight option

Hey guys... I was looking at getting the best sub 5lb laptop I could find. Have ~2500 to spend. Looking at a Dell 600 M or an IBM T41, but I'd look at other options too. Here is the Dell I configured:

Inspiron 600m Intel® Pentium®M Processor 745(1.8GHz) 14.1-in SXGA+ w/32MB Video
Operating System Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional WPXP
Memory 1GB DDR SDRAM 2 Dimms 1024M2D
Hard Drive 60GB Hard Drive 60GB
Optical 24X CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive
Wireless Networking Cards Dell® Wireless 1450 Internal Wireless (802.11a/b/g, 54Mbps)
Primary Battery 53Whr Primary Battery 53WHR
Bluetooth Internal Card TM300I
Additional Battery 53Whr Additional Primary Battery

Anything I'm missing? Anything not needed?

Here is the IBM:

ThinkPad T41 1.7ghz 1mb cache(IBM Think Express Program) 2378EPU 1
40GB 5400rpm Hard Drive 09N4232 1
ThinkPad CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Ultrabay Slim Drive 22P7012
IBM 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter 31P9705 1
256MB PC2700 CL2.5 DDR SDRAM SODIMM (T Series Bulk)
512MB PC2700 CL2.5 DDR SDRAM SODIMM (T Series Bulk)
ThinkPad T40/R50 Series High Capacity Li-Ion Battery
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Warranty service upgrade; 3 year depot repair

Opinions on these two? Other options??

Thanks so much!

More about best lightweight option
  1. Dell: cheap plastic
    IBM: king of the hill

you can't go wrong with a might wanna wait for the t42 though, if anything else, the t41 might drop in price.
  2. Ok - what are the advantages of the 42? I need my laptop by June 2nd... will the 42 be available?
  3. Yes the first models are being shipped the 14th of May. That's tomorrow :)

The advantages of the T42 in general, is that it comes with a Dothan cpu, instead of the Banias one in T41. The Dothan is 5% faster and uses less battery - you can find a review here on toms.
Most new T42s have also been upgraded with a Radeon 9000 instead of a Radeon 7500 - and some with a Radeon 9600 instead of Radeon 9000. Furthermore, some top-end models now come with an ultrabay slim DVD-RW drive.

edit: Try looking at - a lot of info on the T42s to be found there.
