Windows XP/Home

Recently installed updated Zone Alarm which zapped McAfee virus scan.
Attempted to uninstall and reinstall McAfee which resulted in apparent
damage to registry.

Current situation is this:

1. Control Panel/user accounts shows no user accounts. Although we can
still log into pc.
2. IE is having problems displaying various web pages.
3. Windows Update starts IE but you get a blank window.
4. Can no longer locate link to back up to a restore point.

The question is this: Is there anyway to manually kick off a restore so I
could back up a few days or do I just need to save my data and reload?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Please post response to newsgroup.

Thanks,
GLL
