DetonatorXP, GeForce3, and Radeon 8500 questions

First, I am wondering if the new DetonatorXP drivers enable shadow buffers in regular GeForce3 cards? Are shadow buffers that important anyway, and does the Radeon 8500 support them or have something similar to shadow buffers?
