So I'm preparing an Acer 5552 for resale and the only real problem with it was the DC jack was essentially destroyed. I ended up purchasing a replacement and the laptop ran fine, or so I thought. After a bit it started overheating. Figured out that it only overheats when it's plugged in and charging. I've tried removing the battery and still receive the same results. The charger I'm using worked fine before the DC jack incident but it seems to only happen with this new DC jack so I'm confused.

Any help would be appreciated.

I made sure it was. I've noticed Laptops are FAR more specific than a desktop ever was. But I found out the issue was the HDD. It was failing generating far more heat then it was supposed to. Replaced, problem solved.

Thanks for the help though.

Hmm, my hard drive is acting flaky, fails to wake from hibernation, sometime doesn't boot, startup repair fails a few times. It also overheats a lot. I have to put a box fan behind it even though it's on a stand. I think I will replace the HD and see how that goes.
