New Laptop for $1000

I want to get a new computer for collage and gaming. I don't play too many graphic intensive but I want the option too (even if on low but with about 30fps). I would prefer a 14 to 15 inch screen preferable 1920x1080 screen but a 1600x900 would be okay as well. As well as a ssd and for the total weight to be at or under 5 lbs. I am not sure if this is possible, but I would be willing to go over in price but not in weight.

  1. At that budget, you might have to bend a little and choose what is most important.

The Lenovo Y580 is a pretty good deal at $999 with everything you're looking for minus the SSD but its a bit heavy.

I have the Y400 and it has been outstanding. It's also under your weight limit.

It has a little less graphics power with the 650m vs 660m but it is smaller, lighter, has a backlit keyboard, and looks great.

You do sacrifice screen resolution though, but those mobile graphics just aren't great at higher resolutions anyway.

My 650m lets me play games like League of Legends, Starcraft, and Diablo 3 on high and games like BF3, Skyrim, and Planetside 2 on Medium.

You can opt for the $800 one with the 16gb ssd, or do what I did and get the $750 one and put in your own 250gb Samsung pro series ssd for a total of around $1000.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the Y400 also has the Ultrabay so you can add a second 650m graphics card for $230 more down the road if you feel you need it.
  2. I saw the lenovo y500 1080p SLI 650m for $899 on newegg a few days ago.
  3. Thanks for the input, but how much would something be that is under 5 lbs and has the ssd and 1600x900 screen?
