Well, I don't for sure. But I have a good idea. You posted a thread about it in the ***** forum a while back called ****** ***** *** ********?
There, see?
I do think I know what it is, though.

Actually, the IBM 15K SCSIs are the fastest these days.
Of course, I have little fear of any single mechanical SCSI drive outperforming my god box anytime soon.
Speaking of which...is this a solid-state disk, Crash?

I WISH it was a solid-state disk! If you design a board with a programable controller, 32 DIMM sockets, and a backup battery supply I'll get it produced. It has to have less than $20 in parts. Should be able to produce it for $15 more. If we sell them for $70 each, we'll make some cash! It should have U160 SCSI interface, since the cost of added memory will normally put this in the professional class.
Back to you Tom...
Someone's actually done something like that with a PCI card. Eight PC100 sockets, each capable of holding a 1GB ECC DIMM. No SCSI interface getting in the way--you know that would bog it down! Just straight PCI-to-host. Uses external power supply to keep data non-volatile between reboots. Costs $5000 for the base board.
Wish I could remember what it was called and where I saw it...
So...what is your secret weapon? If you don't tell me, I'll just have to assume it's a Swedish penis enlarger pump.
Kelledin

thats cool! i had done some research on making PCI cards and found that you can have special PCI interface chips that let you allow to make a PCI card. With that you can make card for any purpose.
I remember seeing ads in old magazines about memory upgrade cards, they were full length ISA cards loaded with a array of chips, some 32 or more in number, offering a memory upgrade of a whopping 4 MB to 12 MB, only at $2999!!! There were no SIMM or DIMM slots, memory was itself a add-on card!
A small form factor PCI card can hold about 8 DIMM slots horizontally. Rest of the place would be taken up by the PCI interface chip and the memory controller and the battries. The card will be identified as a PCI-IDE controller.
This whole rig shouldnt cost more than $500. Add to it a number of 1 GB DIMMs. It could take 8x1GB = 8 GB of instant storage! you could even install Windows onto it!!! Cant imagine how fast it would boot, work and...crash!?
Add 100% for excise, duties, taxes and shipping.
And so we still sell it at $5000?
girish
No system is fool-proof. Fools are Ingenious!
actually adding 100% would only bring you up to $1,000.
Nice Lizards crunch Trolls cookies.......

Assume what you will, I'm Swedish, we don't need them, we invented them for the British.
Back to you Tom...
Do you mind!
Less of the British please. Be more specific.
