How do I find my Motherboards Video type?

I have an old machine which I installed Windows ME onto. It has a built in video card, WinME only sees it as a Standard PCI graphics adaptor yet I know it is capable of more (I believe it has 4mb of RAM). How on earth can I find what type of video driver I need? I dont have the manuals etc

Thanks

Open the can, look at the mainboard. Take note of the make and model number. Look up the board on the manufacturer's website. Once you find the board specifications, including the integrated video, look for updated drivers for that component.

If you can't find the board in the archives of the site, you might have to contact the company directly.

Note: You could try and post a good description of the board. One of the forum members might recognize it. Some of us have been around for a while.

I'd suggest that you install a newer video card, if you have an AGP port. You aren't going to find much of a performance increase with a 4MB card, whether you install a newer driver or not.

Also, with a board that old, if it will accept a newer video card, you might consider looking for a BIOS update. That might increase the system performance (and could be necessary to properly run a more powerful card.) The same goes for chipset drivers.

Or just upgrade the mainboard. Integrated components are none too robust in the first place. That's like trying to soup-up a moped.

you probably have SiS530 integrated video. Try searching for SiS530

I'm having the exact same problem. Let me know if you resolve it. I'm going to try the tips above and see what happens too.
WinME also thinks my SCSI card is a Sound Card...
