In my add/remove programs, when it generates the list of programs, I scroll
down list and get to the H's and screen turns black, keep scrolling and the
black shifts vertical back and forth and finally get to the rest of the
generated list. I have noticed that where the black is, is where my list of
windows hotfix updates used to be. Anyone have answers. Thanks

Delete the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache
key. It appears to contain some cached data on installed programs that has become incorrect. This just helped me with the same issue.
