I have a sony viao and on the front there is a little door. Inside that
little door there are RCA jacks, 2 of which are for audio. Is there a way
to copy a stream of audio, only, without copying the video? Is there a
program there that does this? Program-wise, all I see is video recording
stuff, nothing for audio only. I want audio only.

You may already have a program that will record the audio only from jacks -
Sony is pretty good about how they outfit their machines - my 1998 era model
was quite adept at audio and video, given the hardware capabilites of the
time!

Okay. I will download Audacity. I hope it recognizes the little rca
jacks in the front.

Right click the volume control in the taskbar, select Open Volume Control.
Select Options, Properties, click on Recording, Make sure that any
additional Line In or Aux In blocks are checked. One of those will be your
front inputs.

Also, look in Accessories/Entertainment - see if Sony installed some sort of
Audio/Video mixer application.

Under Accessories-Entertainment there is a sound recorder. Using that, I
was able to record a song that I was already playing in I-Tunes. That is,
the song was already on the computer and I was recording it again.

But, I need to get my input from the little RCA jacks in front, line input
or something, but the accessories sound recorder does not seem to give that
option. I have not been able to do anything with the Audacity. I change
the settings, (line input, stereo mix, etc.) but nothing gets recorded.
I suppose I will have to try them all. I'll also need a totally separate
input device, I suppose, and, when it is working, I will be able to hear the
sound and then decide to record it, but you can't record it if you don't
hear it, right? It has to get into the computer?
