My wife and I purchased one copy of WinXP home upgrade, as we both run
win98se on our machines. I installed XPhome upgrade on my machine, then made
the mistake of taking my copy and inserting it into her cd-rom drive, and ran
setup there. I typed in the cd key that I had already used.. after this, i
realized that you can only use one install per machine, so off to walmart we
went to pick up her copy.
We did so, and I went to finish the install with the new copy.. however,
the cd key has already been entered from the previously entered copy.
Is there a way I can get back to the Win98se desktop and start over?
any help would be greatly appreciated..

You could try going into the Bios and set the floppy as first boot
device. So it would look like this A, Cdrom, C
Then use your Win98SE bootup disk. If you don't have one go here
www.bootdisk.com and download and create one.
Insert the 98 disk and start the computer. Once it gets to a A: prompt
type: fdisk/mbr It should look like this
a: or A:\fdisk/mbr. That will hopefully get you back into Win98.

If you select the option to activate her installation by telephone,
you'll get an opportunity to change the Product Key. Once you've done
so, you can abort the telephone activation and perform a normal Internet
activation, if you prefer.
