xp booting problems

You have to tell us exactly when it hangs, for anyone to give you anything
more than a general answer. What is the last thing you see on the screen?

while booting into xp. this deosn't happen every time. it happens only
some time and when it happens, pressing the reset button once solves
the problem. the pc boots normally again. i dunno wats happening.

You may find a clue to the problem in the event logs. Probably it's a
device driver that's doing it - have you installed any new hardware or
software lately?

Do these hangups happen when the PC is started up cold, after being
completely powered off and left off for at least an hour?

If so then the prime suspect would be a hardware related issue, with
some component or other not functioning properly when cold but after
it has been under power for a short while it warms up and then starts
to function properly.

The prime suspects for this type of hardware problem would be:
1. Motherboard
2. Power supply
3. CPU chip.

It can be extremely difficult to pinpoint the exact culprit in this
type of situation. About the only way of doing so is to start
swapping out components until the problem goes away. When it does
then you know that the last component you replaced was the culprit.
