I'm currently running an older PC with a 2x AGP. I will be upgrading the CPU to a 1.2gig Celeron. But I also need to upgrade the vid card. Question is: is it a waste of money to buy a Geforce 3 Ti or Radeon 7500/8500 without a 4x AGP?

I think you might have more problems upgrading to a 1.2GHz Celeron if your motherboard is that old. Check with the manufacturer to make sure the chip is compatible before you spend money like that.

As for the video card... SiS, Trident, and ATI have some decent low-end graphics cards that run at AGP2X. Also, most AGP4X cards are backwards compatible with 2X slots, so even if you buy a 4X card it will probably still work. You just won't get full performance out of it.

Hope this helps.

Even if a 4x card was running at 2x, the performance difference is very minor.

Don't worry :) I am going with a chip upgrade that comes with a new voltage regular on the FP-PGA2 slocket adapter. There will be no problems.

As for the card, no I probably won't get the most out of it. But I decided to go for the 8500 anyway. That way if I do a major upgrade in the next year I can just swap it out.

Sounds like you have all your bases covered. Good luck.
