Thanks for the link.
Unfortunately the only helpful item was to verify the USB was set to IRQ 9.
On my ThinPad the only BIOS selection for USB is Enabled or Disabled.

Go into control panel, system, hardware, device manager and remove
everything under universal serial bus (USB),'

Tried that and then when re-booted all the USB listings were under Other
Devices with a yellow question mark.
I used System Restore to go back a couple of days and the USB instances
appeared under Universal Serial Bus as before but I believe the XP USB
drivers are still corrupted.
