did i screw up my video card

after alot of fiddling with my radeon 8500 oem, i finally got it to play games like RTCW smoothly. In the end result though, when i try to access my advanced setting in control panel, my screen goes blank and then flashes colors colors and i have to reboot. It did the same thing with 3dmark2001. I then tried 3dmark2000 but that worked fine. Of the games i have, they work awesome. Any suggestions to what my problem is and how i can fix it? thanks
