For a while now, I've been extremely impressed by the GeForce series of graphics cards. Every time a new product comes out, I always think "Damn, I want one of those". But everytime it comes time for me to upgrade my card, I end up with an ATi. The reason? They make damn good cards for a very reasonable price. And so this dilemma of mine continues into today.

I think I am going to be buying myself a Radeon 8500 (I've been very impressed by my current Radeon 32) but have seen a couple key weakpoints in the countless benchmarks I have been staring out for hours on end. One is UT performance. I am not the biggest UT fan, but play it enough to worry over its performance. It seems from the benches that the Radeons UT performance pales in comparison to GF3's. Does anyone with a R8500 play UT a lot? How does it play? Does anyone experience any slow play (slow being relative to GF3 of course) in other games? Thanks.

eh, i'll procrastinate later...

The article shown the radeon 8500 can play UT at 1600x1200 at 60fps fast enough for me.

Nice Nvidia and ATi users get a Cookie.... Yummy

thats true, but there test machine is an athlon 1800+ while i have a tbird 945. also im thinking of times when every computer has a slow down in games every once in a while and if your going from 93 to 70 its a whole lot better than going from 60 to 40. im just trying to explain any holes in the radeon 8500's performance

Here's the hole:
NVidia is larger, and therefore more games are optimized for its line of video cards. Therefore, it will play better. IMO, get a Ti500, and be happy.

You want to buy Nvidia? Are you sure you have 3 Billion $? LOL

BTW go for the Radeon if you feel fine with it. It is a card that has future potention to be better than the Ti500 and the new drivers are proving effect!

lol, maybe Microsoft should buy Nvidia, ATI, AMD and Intel.

Odd.....when I bought my comp, I didn't have 3 billion to spend on it, and I went NVidia. Hmm, maybe Quadro DCC isn't NVidia- is that it?

Ok I didn't get the last remark...
But dude when I said that, it's just the subject I was kidding, as Nvidia has 3 B$ in shares, so I was just joking!
If I trolled, it woulda been: Dude Nvidia cards are 3B$s...you got that kind of sick money?
See?

Actually now, if I get a new card at all, I'm leaning towards a GF3 Ti200, the only problem is that I cant seem to find a company that sells it with the 3.8ns memory so I can turn it into a Ti500. I think its Gainward or VisionTek. I know its not Leadtek (they use 4ns for the Ti200). The Radeon 8500 is nice and cheaper than the Ti500 but the retail version is still $50-75 more expensive than the Ti200. (Also from every bench I've seen, the 8500 performance is more likened to the Ti200 than the 500.)

Also, how do the retail 8500 and your average Ti200 TV-out/in features compare. I'm pretty certain that both companies have DVD play down so I'm mostly concerned with which can work with TV's well.

Then again I may end up screwing the whole idea and finally getting a nice system for my car... my computer runs decent now with everything fully overclocked...

Both have good TV I assume- I have used a Ti200, and it's nice. I haven't tried the R8500. Where did u find a retail r8500 for so cheap? The last retail I saw was $299!

that seems too good to be real!!!!!! 3.3 ns memory oc'ed to 600mhz ddr!!! that card would be faster than a ti500 for only $189!!!!!!!! before i order one, does anyone see any downsides to this?
