My computer that came with XP home, crashed. Had to have new hard drive
installed, but don't have disc to re-install it. Friend said to contact
microsoft and can obtain new disc since I have XP home and product code on
bottom of laptop? Does anyone know if this is correct and who I can contact,
or what else I can do?

Thanks

You'll have to contact your PC manufacturer. You'll need either a set of
recovery CD's or an OEM version of XP, which they can provide.

If Windows was pre-installed by the manufacturer of your computer, contact
the manufacturer.

If you purchased Windows at retail:
"How to replace lost, broken, or missing Microsoft software or hardware"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;%5Bln%5D;326246

Many computer manufacturers supply recovery CDs with their computers.

As you have the Product Key label affixed to the bottom of the laptop,
you clearly have an OEM license. This means that the *only* source
(unless you wish to purchase a new license, that is) for a replacement
CD is the computer's manufacturer.
