Task manager problem

Hi, I'm using Windows XP Pro on an IBM Thinkpad.

I press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open the Task Manager, but it closes in one second
all by itself. How do I fix this?

The installer for the MS Anti spyware closes itself.

I tried that, but it won't start the installer. I get the following message:

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you
are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not
correctly insatalled. Contact your support for personal assistance."
