I'm probably going to be buying a Radeon 8500. I'm incredibly tempted to get the OEM version (and save $60) and overclock it to the standard retail settings.

Who has tried that? Have you succeeded?

Send me an email, I'll send you the OEM-->Retail BIOS flash. I haven't tried it (since I don't own an 8500), but it's supposed to work like a charm.
I'm not responsible for any damage, of course.

My e-mail address is in my profile.

I had planned on using a tweak utility to overclock. What will the BIOS flash do besides up the clock speed of the memory and the CPU? Will it be worth the risk?

BTW, thank you.

It'll make the OEM think it's a retail. Raise the clock speed (like you said), and maybe something else that I don't know about. The file is just over 600k, and is on it's way now.

Raises the clock speed and changes the timing. Some people who were unable to overclock their 8500 OEM to 275 with stability found that changing BIOS to Retail did the trick.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

Format a:\s on another system, then load the flash utility and BIOS file.

Yes, or there are programs to make a bootable disk through W2k. Real cool, I'll have to grab it off my friend's FTP first though.

Dont flash the OEM with a Retail BIOS before ur sure the card can take the higher clock speed!

I see some ppl having problems after they did that
few have damaged theyr cards!

Just use Power Strip to overclock

Why ATI R8500?
Because there is an A in front of Ti, and a 8 in front of 500 ;)

Where'd you hear about people having problems? I haven't heard anything.
No big deal to me, I told both the people I emailed it to that I take no responsibility.
