I have installed a Elsa Synergy III Quadro2MX AGP card in a P4 2G
Dell 530 running dual monitors w/Win 2000. My goal was to be able to animate 3D and edit video on the same machine. The problem is my software supports a Matrox 450 to edit video (Avid Xpress DV) and I really need a fast OpenGL card to work with the Autodesk 3D Viz. I ordered the machine from Dell with a WildcatII 5110 installed not knowing that it did not include some sort of video proccessor. The Elsa I know is not the high performer that I desired, but at the time when I purchased it I needed something that did both functions. Well after reinstalling new drivers the Synergy III still has not been able to play video. One suggestion I have had was to install 2 cards in the machine. I had a ATI Radeon 8500 installed with the latest drivers and it played video, but a #2 monitor glowed with a negative type screen. Returned and exchanged that card with the same thing happening on the second one. Finally I retured and got a refund. Do I do the same with this Elsa card? Is ther such a beast out there, somewhere that has a onboard a video proccessor, supports dual monitors, OpenGL, P4 1.5v AGP slot and performs well lighted animations? What would you do?

The Wildcat 5110 should have a 2D engine. there a few versions of the Wildcat II, I have 3 on the shelf now that were pulled from the Zx10's. I even have an extra geometry engine option. Check your card for a "cirrus logic" chip. thats your 2D processor. I know "YUCK!" but thats the 2D you get with that 3D card for a mere 2 grand or more. The Wildcat is a high end OenGL card.

Radeon 8500 has problems with openGL currently. This is not a good choice for what your doing at this time. The drivers need to mature quite a bit for this application.

Check out the Quadro DDC, this is what we are currently <A HREF="http://www.sgi.com/visualization/graphics_cluster/tech_..." target="_new">shipping with most models</A> for OpenGL and video editing.

The Quadro2MX is a low end OpenGL card, very low end.

We no longer ship wildcats, too often these cards were being pulled and replaced with cards that had better 2D engine.
