Hi Fellow System Builders,
Would anyone know if Radeon 8500 DV does the mpeg2 encoding in real time (when using the firewire port and a digital video camcorder as input) and stores it in mpeg2 format on the disk? Or do you have to store it in avi format and use something like ulead to convert it into mpeg2, thus using your computer's CPU intead of the GPU.

Thanks in advance

Regards
Anuj

Hi,
Here is what I found at http://www4.tomshardware.com/graphic/01q4/011211/aiw850....

"This card can render videos in MPEG 1&2 formats, as well as in a proprietary ATI format. Data compression is performed entirely by the CPU. Hardware compression is not available with this card. "

Oh Well, looks like my CPU will have to do some work after all.
