Here are my (sucky) system specs:
1.4ghz P4
sucky HP mobo
128mb rdram
32mb tnt2 pro

I don't want to post on 3 different forums, so here are my questions.

First, I mainly play games. My computer is going to have to last a year through college (starting this coming fall).

How much ram do I need for gaming? I have 128 now - will another 128 for a total of 256 be enough for anything I'll ever do in the future?

Also, (sorry to ask this), which video card should I get? It will need to last for the rest of this year, and for the next school year at the least. I've talking in the range of $100-$200 (preferably more around 150). I was thinking about the Ti-200 (geforce3), but will that last me long enough for my gaming needs? Please give me video card suggestions.

Lastly, what about my processor? Will the 1.4ghz p4 last me for a year and a half and comfortably run games?

Thanks a lot for any suggesitons.

Ok, get 256 or 384 MB RAM. For the vid card, GF2 Ti200 is perfect choice. Your proc is fine.

I agree with flasmethrower. Your processor is fine, you'll get 2 years out of it no problem. GF Ti 200 will also be fine, but you could also consider an ATI Radeon 8500. 256 RAM will be good for another year, but after that you'll likely need 384. What OS are you running?

Agreed, 20$ more for the Radeon 8500 gives you alot more bang for your buck.

Since RDRAM is paired I'd suggest you go with 128MB modules if you have 4 slots. 256MB if you have only 2. A) Because otherwise you will be throwing out alot of perfectly good RAM when you need more then 256MB. B) RAM prices are on an up swing, so buy will they are still fairly low.

CPU should be just fine. Not a screamer, but it should get the job done. (Really should have gone Athlon DDR though if you wanted maximum bang for buck.)

Please no personal opinions, to avoid inviting trolls. The P4 1.4GHz is an excellent and STILL a high-end CPU when paired with the right components.
