I got my brother a GeForce2 MX200 for Christmas, and the thing just doesn't want to work. Okay, you know how the first thing the monitor displays when you switch on is the video BIOS info, and the second screen is the RAM test? They're both fine, but on the 3rd screen (the DOS one with all the computer info), right under the big box with all the computer specs, there's a flashing white message saying "Warning: SDP not detected at DIMM(s) 2!" The computer continues booting and then after a few seconds just stops, and freezes.
You can get to the desktop in safe mode, and if you then tell Windows that the card is just a normal VGA thing, then it boots alright, but of course there's no 3D acceleration or any other wonderful GeForce2 MX200 features.
The system is a PII-350 with 320mb RAM, SbLive, etc. Don't know what the motherboard is. The GF2mx200 is some generic Asian knock-off, but I've never had problems with those before. My own conclusion is that it's the drivers screwing things up. I tried Detonator 21.83, since they work fine on my own system (I have a normal Gf2MX, and the latest Detonators cause me all kinds of problems).
So instead of hunting down all the older versions of the drivers and trying them all until I find one that works, I thought I'd try asking first, to see if anyone knows which version of the Detonators is best for the MX200's. Or, indeed, if anyone has any other ideas as to what's going wrong.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
