Hi,
I am unable to intall windows 7.I get a blue screen in the middle of the installation.I hvae updated my BIOS too.
My specifications are:
OS: Win xp 32 BIt Professional
Motherboard: Asus M2NPV-VM
Ram: 1 GB * 2= 2 GB DDR2 800FSB(Transcend)
Graphics card: XFX GeForce 8500GT(512 MB DDR2,500MHz Core)
Hard disk: 320 Gb Segate
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
What's the error code? Is it 0x0000007b ? Not sure if this applies to windows 7, but on some motherboards for win xp you have to turn on native or IDE feature on for hard drive controller. Windows XP will not install if it's on SATA mode, and maybe windows 7 is the opposite.
I have the exact same Asus board and an X2 5600+. I had no trouble getting Windows 7 working.
Can you be more specific as to the installation? I assume it's a clean install? I used G-Parted to create a new partition and then installed Win7 Beta as a dual-boot with my XP Pro. No trouble at all.
But if you formatted the drive completely, the SATA driver issue might come up, as gimeti mentioned.
Though I'm SURE you did not, but if by chance you downloaded this via some p2p program and then burned this to disk, there are a few things you can try to look at right off the bat.
First, are you sure that the image is the right size? If you had to convert your download from some form to another, make sure that this process was completed error free.
Second, if you burned this image to disk, did you have your burning software verify that the burn was successful and error free after completion?
Third, have you run checkdisk to make sure that your HDD is error free?
Also, is this a clean installation?
Give us more info if you cant get it to work.
Win7 really is a great iteration of the OS
First of all thanks to gimeti,Herr_koss and cybrcatter for replying and sharing ur views about the problem i have.To be clear I am going to start from scratch.
1: I have a MSDN account and this is where i have downloaded the legal version
of windows7 Ultimate(ISO).
2: Because of the problem i am facing i burned it on three DVD's using fist NERO 9,
Alcohol 120 and BurnAware Professional.
3: I have not run checkdisk.
4: when windows 7 is installing i created a fresh partition of my 320GB keeping
50GB as to where the windows has to be installed.Ther were two options it
asked upgrade or custom installation i choose custom installation.
5: It kept installing windows files, update files and restarted and when the feature
completing installation was going on it suddenly restarted and then i got
a: WINDOWS ERROR RECOVERY
Windows failed to start.A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1: Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2: Choose your language seetings and the click "Next".
3: Click "repair your computer".
Other Options:
If power was interrupted durinf startup, choose start windows normally.
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration(Advanced)
Start Windows Normally
If i click safe mode i get windows cannot continue installation.
If i choose (Last known Good Config or start windows normally) I get a BLUE SCREEN saying
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to ur computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer.(which i did 3 times). If this screen appears, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space(which i have 50GB).If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates(which i did not get).Try changing video adapters.
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS update(which i installed).Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced stratup options, and then select safe mode.
