The old motherboard (440bx chipset) on my NT 4.0 system fried. I'm replacing it with a new P4 i845 (400 FSB) that requires 1.5volt signalling (4X) on the AGP.

Now, when I put in the new MB and fire it up with the old NT boot drive, what do I need to do to ensure that the card will be running at 1.5volt 4X? I just got a new graphics card - ASUS V7100 Geforce2 MX 32Meg.

I figure on booting in safe mode (VGA mode), installing the new graphics drivers, then rebooting in 1024x768 mode.

Will the MB and the Graphics card figure this out or are there soft settings I will need to do? Anything in the BIOS?

If your new card is an AGP 4x card the mobo will automatically set the voltage to 1.5V, the drivers don't have anything to do with the voltage regulation.
But you must first install the standard graphic drivers in safe mode and then install the new drivers otherwise you could get driver conflicts.

My case has so many fans that it hovers above the ground   .

I hope that you have DDR support on that board as a Pentium 4 is a waste on anything slower than a DDR Ram. To setup the correct settings, you will need to go into the BIOS and turn on the 4X, after you have installed all the latest drivers for your MB, soundcard, and video card. Alos, make sure that you have the latest copy of direct X.

On the voltage front, your motherboard should set the voltage by itself, of it doesn't chech your manual to find out how.

If it works for you then don't fix it.

Got the new AGP installed. Went like a breeze. But, I'm finding that was the least of my problems. Now my 56K modem is only connecting at 28K! Damn cd that came with the USRobotics 56K Faxmodem didn't have all the drivers for NT on it. I had to reassemble my other computer to dial out and get the drivers. Of course the one file was more than what a floppy would hold and I don't have cd burning software on that one and I don't have the networking going yet. GEES! Finally got the latest modem drivers installed, but only getting 28K. *&^%)((*&^%$^%&
