HP 8670C
933mhz with 133 bus
768 Ram
Asus Motherboard ?
Via Apollo chipset
(82C596B) (82C693A)
Sound Blaster Audigy
NEC MultiSync FE700 Monitor

I can only run a resolution of 640 X 480, when I try to change it to anything else the screen just goes black, I have loaded the latest drivers for the 8500 (7206), but no change. Tried diferent via drivers 4.10 and 4.03 4 in 1 437A's. Took out a stick of memory to make it 512, but still no change. The games that I already had in 640 X 480 work (CS and Monster Truck) but with all other games that were not already set at 640 X 480 the screen goes black. The games seem to load (I can still hear them) but the screen goes black. Any help would be appreicated otherwise I will have to return it, even though I have great hope for the product, It will do me no good If I cant make it work on my computer. Thanks in advance

hmm, that doesn't sound like a bug. I'm guessing it's something with your monitor. Your NEC monitor should be able to handle resolutions is much higher! What was your previous graphics card? Were you able to run at over 640*480 before?

When you install new video cards quite often windows throws in a generic monitor inf in.
Make sure you go to www.necmitsubishi.com and click on 'quick links' and 'download monitor drivers' (i think thats what they are) and 'download win95/98/ME/2000 inf file'

They also have instructions for installing it if that is the problem.

Although it may not be the monitor. the FE700 will display: Video input No Signal or Video Input out of Range if its not getting a signal or getting a bad signal. If all it is recieving is a black screen, it could be a bad video card.

Thank you for your help, we have solved the problem, it seems to have been an IRQ problem, the Audigy card and 8500 card were both on the same IRQ(11), we moved the Audigy board down two slots, and now it is working. The Audigy is now on IRQ 10 and the 8500 is on IRQ 11. Thanks very much!
Now we can venture on and see what happens next.
