Not sure if this is an XP issue or if it related to the hardware, but
for what it's worth, here's an error I have in my event log
The driver vtdisp for the display device \Device\Video3 got stuck in an
infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself
or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please
check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.
I've tried updating and reinstalling the drivers. Still getting the
same error. I don't want to have to fork out 200$ for a new video
card unless I can't get this resolved.

Is the card old, new, what make/model is it, is it a secret...

You may be installing the wrong driver for the onboard video...I have seen a
lot of problems similar to yours on the INTERNET with little resolve..If you
want to play newer games upgrade to a faster card that can work with your
system or spring for a new system altogether. You might find a card cheaper
than $200 that will be better than what you have now. It really depends on
what you can afford and what game you want to play... DOOM3 will never play
on a SG3 onboard card for example, and depending on how old your system is or
what it (make/model) is makes a difference..

and available too, just something to think about..
Hope this helps..

Thanks man. It's a brand new computer, just purchased not 2 weeks ago.
It's a Compaq Presario SR1500NX. I know it has 1 AGP and 2 PCI slots
so I'll be heading to one of the local peripheral stores sometime to
see if I can pick something up.

Ok, checkout these links and update your rig with the latest updates and see
if the onboard
Video problem clears up with system wide updates and read up about what they
say about SP2 and their drivers..
