As far as I know, there are 3 versions of the Radeon 8500 (not DV):

Radeon 8500 with 275MHz core/550MHz memory
Radeon 8500LE with 250MHz core/500MHz memory
Radeon 8500LELE with 230MHz core/460MHz memory

I believe the LELE has slower memory also...

I know, that's what I said! It's RAM runs at 460MHz!

I know but I believe the LE and the retail have the same memory and the LELE has slower memory than them, not just the speed it's clocked at.

You mean the memory rating in nanoseconds?

Is there a way to find what speeds your card is running on?

Thanks, power strip tells me that I have a clock speed of 230MHz for engine and 230 for Memory. I thought AMD_Man mentioned that it would be 230 and 460. Is it because that the memory is ddr that AMD_MAN multiplied the clock speed by 2.
Since I am new to this stuff compared to you all, I wanted to know what was the speed of my memory (in nano secs). My memory chips on the radeon 8500 say " Hynix 134A HY5DV641622AT-36". Does the last 36 mean that it is 3.6 ns?

BTW, I could get my memory and engine clocks up to 255/255MHz after which the display started showing some weird dots. Will I harm my card by pushing the speeds to 255/255?

Thanks and regards

Yes, 460MHz is effective speed. So it actually runs at 230MHz, but is effectively equivalent to SDR RAM running at 460MHz. Yes, it appears you do have 3.6NS memory. That's apparently the same memory that's used in my retail Radeon 8500.

Hi AMD_Man,
I have found the retail bios for R8500 at http://file2.mydrivers.com/display/R85_275.zip . Would you advise to flash my LELE with this bios to get it up to the retail speed? Thanks for your help

I would try it, why not. If still doesn't run at 275/275 stabily, then I would suggest you read up on the pencil trick. I don't remember the details, but you use a pencil to connect two points on the card to raise the voltage of the memory. I have heard this allowed LE and LELE owners to get to 300/300 and beyond.

Thanks all. I flashed my bios with Flashradeonv201 and guess what? I am clocking my radeon at 295/295 with perfect stability. I guess I will not return this card for a retail version after all. There was this small question of 15% restocking fee :-)...

Cheers
