60 Hz refresh at 1600X1200

I have an Abit KT7 motherboard, 1200/100 Athlon, Elsa Gladiac 920 GeForce 3 graphics and Dell P790 monitor (according to Plug and Play), running Windows ME. The monitor is capable of 72Hz refresh rate at 1600X1200, which it managed using a Voodoo 3 card. When I upgraded to Geforce 2, then later to Geforce 3 card, I could only get 60 Hz at this resolution. In the properties dialogue I can set 60, 70 or 72 Hz, but in reality it is only 60 Hz (confirmed by flicker and OSD). At 1280 X 1024, I can set 85 Hz OK, so it does not seem to be a limit in line frequency. Various tweaker programs that allow change of refresh rate produce the same result, i.e., real refresh rate is still 60 Hz, whatever the software says. I currently have 23.11 drivers, but previous versions gave the same problem. I have tried a new ME monitor driver from Dell, and tried drivers for other monitors with higher refresh rates, same result. Anyone else come across this and/or know a fix?

Could be that your card don't support this, but I don't know how high refresh rate's the GeForce 3 supports at 1600x1200.

My case has so many fans that it hovers above the ground  .
