system:
xp1700+
gigabyte ga7vtx-p (kt266a)
2 viewsonic 17" crt displays (pf775) running 2560x1024@85hz@32bit
g550 bios v1.4.014
win2000 sp2/dX 8.1
QT 5.0.2
matrox 5.72 drivers and 5.82(beta) drivers.
problem:
recently got the card and noticed something strange with qt. whenever i try to open qt it comes up as transparent, but i can still see the outline of the window. if i drag the window it will show like desktop images (you know like when something crashes and the background gets "stuck"). so it will not play movies or audio files. i do video work so qt usually is coming into play quite often. in premiere, i can output to qt with no problems (so i think). but if i try to play a source .mov file or drop it on the timeline i get the same results.
what i've done so far:
uninstalled/reinstall qt
uninstalled realplayer
uninstalled/reinstalled premiere
uninstalled 5.72 display drivers/installed 5.82beta drivers
changed agp aperture from 64mb to 128mb
update g550 bios from 1.1.010 to 1.4.014
none of this has worked.
conclusion:
what i realized was if i reboot or powerup from a cold-boot. qt will play/function fine... BUT, if i let my screensaver come on, then go back to my desktop, that's when i get this problem. any info is greatly appreciated, thank you!

I know that Quicktime has problems with IE 5.5sp2 and IE 6

if you have either it could be your problem

thanks, i'll have a look at that. but i do know that i never had this problem with an elsa gladiac 32mb. that was with 5.5 installed. i wouldn't be surprised at all if it's solely the blame of the card. i'm actually pretty disappointed in it's performance thus far. and all i do is 2d work/video, absolutely no gaming! (well ok i'm a solitare addict   ). so which brings me to another question if anyone can help me on. my first choice for a dualhead was the radeon 7500, but it wasn't out at the time. so a couple questions really quick about the 7500:
a. does it support hardware overlay only on the main monitor or both?
b. i've heard that the 8500 OEM version is a "toned" down retail (not as powerful), is this the case with the 7500 as well?
thanks again for any info.
