I select "Run" from Start menu, enter "ipconfig" (or whatever) and black
dialogue window flutters open, but closes immediately. Consequently, I am
unable to run any commands in DOS. Oddly, when entering "Msconfig" the System
Configuration Utility Box opens???

Am I missing any files?

Thanks.

You have to open a Command Prompt first for a lot of these commands.

Start | Run | Type: cmd | Click OK |
When the Command Prompt opens, type:

ipconfig

Hit your Enter key.

By the way ipconfig /? will display HELP for ipconfig.

/? added after most commands will display HELP about that command.

Some commands work from Start | Run, some do not. It's trial and error.

msconfig has a Graphical User Interface, ipconfig does not. So msconfig
works from Start | Run. With ipconfig everything has to be done in a
command prompt, there is no GUI.

Duh. Thanks so much. I feel like a real dummy. So many other commands do not
require "CMD" that I totally forgot. I even used Restore! Now then, having a
sluggish XP is another issue! Have run all sorts of anti-virus progs but no
luck - - I can't buy 'em all!
Bill
Thx again!
