ok I am a tech for a computer store called Megahurtz. check us out if you live in Canada. But anyways to the point, I have an Ati Radeon 64 DDR in my rig. I play all my games @ 1024x768 32bit no problems. usually get playable frame rates in all my games. Now in one of our instore Pc's we have an ATI Radeon 8500 OEM. So first thing I did was flash it with the retail bios, so far so good no problems.

Now this test machine is a P4 1700mhz
256mb SDRAM cas 3
40 GB 7200 Maxtor
845 intel chipset
windows Xp/ ME dual boot now the rest of the specs are not needed.

Anyways first issue I get random reboots from the desktop in XP. fix the refresh rate thing no problem. in games during playback it gives me a slight stutter. So first thing I think is I hear all this crap about intel and stability yet this system is the most unstable I've ever used. alone from the Video card issues I get lock ups on the desktops running program etc... So much for 845 chipset being the next BX I don't think so. Had another issue when setting up the Dual partition where the system wouldn't let me boot from the MBR instead had to use a boot Cd ...some strange [-peep-].

But back to the video card I decide to swap the 8500 with my orginal radeon. I put it into my machine, so far so good.
Note I've flashed both bios in both card my orginal was a OEM now retail.
I'm using Omega tweaked drivers and in my system the 8500 run flawless not a single lock up no issues.
I've tested RTCW with truform runs good
also tested Counter Strike with truform on runs excellent
alittle better than my orginal radeon even though I was getting 99fps with my card also. playback seems alittle smoother. also no slow downs in smoke nades.

Hmm and guess what my Home rig is an overclocked athlon.

now I know alot of people with say why the hell u using a P4 with SDRAM. I'm fully aware of the performance decrease with SDRAM. But I didn't build that system myself someone else did. I would have never built a P4 with SDRAM. But those are the specs and what I had to work with.

now only thing I did notice different was in RTCW some of the lighting effect seemed buggy which I didn't see in my orginal radeon. But other than that the 8500 run awesome in my system. only thing I see holding me back abit is my cpu which I need to upgrade. As for that instore PC I'm still doing further testing with the R100 in it. will get back with details. Also the argument I hear about intel being more stable than AMD systems is a load of crap. I know from personal experience.
