Hi,
I installed winxp successfully (after flashing the bios on my epox 8kha+).
I installed the 23.11 nvidia drivers for my asus ti200.

When i start a game or 3dmark 2001 etc, the refesh rate of my monitor goes down to half of what it should be at that particular resolution. The same applies to all resolutions.
I'm getting a headache!

Does one of the many clever and helpful people at Toms Comm know what could be causing this, or even a fix for it?

Any help is greatly appreciated as always.
Thanks

thanks very much for the link, unfortunately it hasnt solved my prob.

I can set my display to the correct refersh rates in wimdows. It is only when i start a graphics intensive application like games that the refresh rate is too low.
Apart from being able to see it, my monitor can tell me the refresh rate in it's on screen display.

I think I'm going back to windows 98 unless i can sort this out. What a shame...

any other ideas?

That fix should have fixxed the issue, do you have the correct monitor installed and not the generic plug and play monitor.

nice one.

I'm a bit stumped now though... my pc keeps restarting half way through a round of wolfenstein. (just as i'm about to kick ass as well.) Never had this prob with win98.

Dont suppose it is anything to so with the refresh rate solution?

I heard that a few people had problems with enermax 350W PSUs but mine has never complained b4.

Not seen anything about it causing restarts at all :/

the restart by the OS or due to a power outage ?

dunno.

It's just like hitting the restart button.

BIOS says the 5v rail (the one that can cause probs on an enermax) is about 4.85V, which is within the 5% limit.

I doubt it's the refresh patch cos this seems to be the only case.

I want to put another 256 meg of crucial in my rig (up to 512) but if this is a power issue, surely another stick of RAM will be even worse??

Oh, and you can call me betty but only if i can be your long lost pal

::gets even more helpful::

The restart is windows xp default responce to a bsod, you can change that in contropanel>system>advanced>startup and recovery>settings and uncheck the box which says restart in event of system failure.

Having given you that helpfup nugget, I will elaborate on the issue itself. Once you uncheck the reboot option, you will begin to get a bsod instead of the reboot, this MOST LIKELY, is the videocard driver(Im assuming 23.11)/windowsxp/via bug, there are several fixxes for this over at The via arena.

<A HREF="http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.cfm?catid=13&thr..." target="_new">http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.cfm?catid=13&thr...;/A>

The most common fix is to go from the 23.11's to the more stable and non beta 21.83's.

Good luck

i've had nothing but headaches with XP and my Gainward Ti200.
driver problem, video errors, system shutdowns, etc etc
i want to can XP for 2kPro but isn't it wonderful that microsoft recalls all the old OS's when they release a new one?
January 23, 2002 4:53:26 PM

Me too. Matisarro helped alot but you probably know this if you read the whole thread.

I think I'm sorted now. I'm still testing with wolfenstein (that's what I'm telling my girl anyway)
I'm using the 'leaked' 23.12 drivers, via 4in1 4.37, and the refresh rate fix that Stiffler pointed out.

The problem occurs in 2k as well, you just dont notice it cause xp shuts down the pc on an error.

Read the thread I linked to, it has alot of good advice to fix the issue.

The XP auto shutdown may be easily switched off... its not necessary at all

yeah but it still crashes and does a memory dump. Still need to restart my machine.
Unless you know something and you're not letting on?..

You mean by the method I posted above about 4 days ago? I did not know that, wow thanks for the insight.

<sarcasm>

<non sarcasm> I know this, but most people see a bsod as a general windows thing, and dont realize the issue, however when your pc reboots for no reason, people start to look into the problem, hense, windows xp appears to be most affected by the bug, only because those who get it in 2k or 9x dont realize its an issue and not just another windows bsod.
