Is there a way to take a snap-shot or picture of the screen on the desktop
that I can show/email to someone??

On your keyboard you should find a key labelled PrtScn - for Print Screen.

In the old days it really did send a picture of the screen to the printer.
Under Windows it send a picture of the screen to the clipboard. You can then
open the paint program and import the screen image from the clipboard and do
with it what you want.

CTRL+PrintScreen or ALT+PrintScreen... Then you can go to the Paint program
and paste it.
