I know it sounds like a soundcard question, but it happened since I got my Geforce3 so I think it would be better asked here.

Evry 3d app or game I play has severely crackly sound in it. The sound in windows is perfect. it's just in 3d games. This happened ever since I got my geforce 3 card. I have moved the soundcard to another pci slot (so it's not using the same irq as the geforce) that didn't help.

ANyone got any ideas? does this sound familiar? I want to know because It's very distracting.

Thanks.

I have seen this problem when playing Ghost Recon. It seems to be very consistent with Sound Blaster Live! sound cards too.

But your saying it happens in every game, so I'd check for driver updates for your sound card.

Ghost Recon is supposed to release a MUCH NEEDED patch soon...

BTW, which sound card are you using?

I'm using a soundblaster PCI 128

there have *never* been any updates for the drivers. I have searched high and low (in the past and more recently) for drivers and the most up-to-date driver is the original! but that is understandable because it's always worked perfectly for me (until now). I am more inclined to believe that it's something to do with the 3d card or the configuration of the system. because I have had the sound card for something like 4 years without problems.

Are you using a Via chipset? You may need the Via latency patch.

Maybe if you lower the soundcards hardware acceleration in the DirectX settings app. solves the problem.

My case has so many fans that it hovers above the ground   .

No matter. I fixed it. And it wasn't something that was suggested in the other replies. I turned off AGP 4X in the bios. Not only did that fix the sound, but it more than doubled the framerate in all my games.
