I just put together a new system using the ASUS A7M266 Mainboard with 256MB PC2100 DDR RAM and using an AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz processor. Here is my problem; when I turn the power on, the system gets power initially, then goes dead. The system does not boot up, the processor heatsink/fan turns for a second then stops. I have removed everything but the processor and memory, still no good. I am using a 300W PS approved by AMD for this board/processor. Any ideas or help will be appreciated!

Check if all cables are connected properly and that your board isn't shorting because of touching some part of the case.

My case has so many fans that it hovers above the ground   .

it might be cpu heating up , or memory, the min to runpost test is cpu, memory, video, since you took out all. i would say that you should return one or all mob, cpu, memory, video. do not think it's power

No, the board is not grounding out, i triple checked. The board is also set to be jumperless as well and the BIOS auto detects the cpu. As for overheating, the cpu fan turns maybe two complete rotations before it stops. It is not even getting to post yet. I'm stumped!!!!

If your motherboard has a auto shutoff if the fan header doesnt detect a cpu fan, make sure this is turned off, or you cpu fan is plugged into the right mobo header.

Very strange, could be a bad powersupply.

No, the power supply is new and I have replaced it with another new one just to be safe. Like I said, this is a strange one. Still working on it though...... Thanks for all of the comments/help!

Check if your BIOS jumper (if there is one) is set to normal. If that doesn't help I start to wonder if the mobo isn't bad.
