I propose the thought of an 8500 roundup. I recently purchased an 8500 and after talking with someone knowledgable with radeons last night what i found is what I thought was an le(which was my first disappointment), is in fact an lele(230/230). This has left a bad taste in my mouth about the 8500 entirely, as I have yet to find only but a handful of resellers that even represent an le as what it is. I just think that it would be of great benefit to anyone looking into buying a radeon 8500 if they could have so me sort of knowledge of what cards to buy. Since many of the boards you buy say ati on them and nothing else, I'm not sure how you would be able to discern who made it even after buying it, let alone before doing so, but maybe someone knows something about this that I don't? I must admit i am asking for this somewhat out of my own concern as well, as I would like to see the difference performance of 230's v 250's v 275's.

I agree that I too would like to see some benchmarks for the OEM versions of th 8500 but "roundups" are usually reserved for cards that get manufactured by multiple companys in order to view any advantages or dissavanvages of that particular vendor.

When I have time, I will flash my retail 8500 to all three difference BIOSes and record the results.

PAL and NTSC are the TV standards. You're right, PAL is for Europe and Asia, NTSC is for North America. I'm not sure about South America. Oh, Africa is PAL too, BTW.
The reason there are different BIOSes is for the TV-out. That would also suggest that there aren't different Radeon 8500 cards for the different areas, just that they're shipped with a different BIOS.
