I've used various driver revisions and have STILL not found anything significantly faster or as stable as the 6.31 driver for the GeForce 2 series under Win98SE.

Version 6.31 performs better than 12.9 or later versions? Wow...hmm maybe I should try that. That driver is ancient, I'm currently using the very latest (23.11, right?) and it boosted my 3dmark2001 score from 2000 to 2400.

Wow. I gave up in the 12's somewhere, I think I got about 200 more points with the 6.31 as the 12.41

Dude your still online...sweet. Hey I just tried the 6.31 drivers and was bumped back down to 2000 points. You should try the absolute latest driver- it boosted my score by 400 points.

It's the Win9x-Me_2 driver (Version 23.11) found at NVidea's site. Some people have mentioned problems, but I have yet to experience any.

BTW, I've been using the Detonator Destroyer to clean out the old drivers...

I'm downloading ver12.9 now...
Edited by Flyboy on 01/31/02 03:09 AM.

I don't have any GeForce cards left! IN fact, I don't even have any nVidia cards left! I sold them ALL!

Aggg! Oh ok, I thought this was for your personal system.

At any rate, I just reinstalled the 23.11 drivers and it brought my score back up to 2425. Dang, I wouldn't have gone through the trouble of testing the 6.31 if I didn't know I could help ya' bump up your score by 400 points!

So to answer your question, it seems to me that the 23.11 (very latest) drivers by NVidea are the best. Although I didn't try version 12.90. For some reason the one I downloaded didn't work. I'll leave it up to you to try that one out.

I believe some of the forum dwellers prefer 22.8 because they mentioned some bugs in 23.11. Also, DirectX8.1 improved my score as well (~100 points if I recall).

My system:
Win98SE
P2B-F motherboard
Asus V7100 GeF2 MX400 video
SoundBlaster Live! value
DirectX 8.1
PIII 750Mhz

If your going to try various drivers, I recommend using the Detonator Destroyer. I haven't had any problems using it. This little tool is a MUST have for tweakers...

Get Det Destroyer here:

OR here (for some reason the one above didn't work for me):

I was already getting 3200 with my GTS before I sold it, and 2400 I believe with my MX. I get over 3000 with my Radeon LE (but used to get 3200).

And those scores are with the old 6.31 drivers?

All my cards were overclocked to their limmit. PIII 933. Same platform, cards, software config, I got 3200 from the GTS (220/380), 3200 from the RadeonLE (at retail spec), and, if memory serves me correctly, 2400 from the MX (220/190). Toying with the RadeonLE got me down to 3000, where I gave up. I've since sold all those parts except the Radeon LE.

Interesting that old drivers gave so much performance... BTW my GeForce2 MX is running at 220/205.
